King of Hearts Challenge

Hot FM, We the Kings, and the Metro Health Hospital Foundation have teamed up to raise funds to offer FREE heart screenings to student athletes in our community. The heart screenings are aimed at detecting underlying heart conditions in student athletes; screenings that are not part of a routine sports physical and are not easily obtained because of cost by most families. It is our hope these efforts will help prevent the unthinkable reality of Sudden Cardiac Death which affects thousands of student athletes and their families each year.

Kickoff date February 29th , 2012

End Date April 20th , 2012

Any of the high schools in the Grand Rapids and surrounding areas are welcome to participate in the challenge. Go to metrohealth.net to register on or after February 29th.

Schools are able to raise money by selling challenge t-shirts for $10 per shirt. Also, each individual school is welcome to be creative and come up with their own way to fundraise.

Each $100 per school raised will give the school one entry into a drawing for the first, second and third place winners. Schools big or small have equal chance of winning the competition! The more money that your school raises the more chances you have to WIN!

The first place school will win a concert at their school from Travis and Hunter from WE THE KINGS and free heart screenings for 80 student athletes.

The second and third place schools will be provided with an AED as well as free specialized training classes from the Wes Leonard Heart Team.

Thank You’s From the Wes Leonard Heart Team!

The Wes Leonard Heart Team is so grateful to so many people and establishments in our community.  In September, Cranes Pie Pantry dedicated an entire day of proceeds to benefit  our cause. 20% of the bills that day were tabulated and the WLHT received over $2,000.  That is enough for an AED and a mounted case on a wall for schools.  Thank you to Laura, Becky, Lou and the entire staff.

In October, Cranes U-Pick Corn Maze gave all proceeds from their entire first Saturday to the Wes Leonard Heart Team.  Our members set up our tent, showed CPR, how AEDs work and sold our apparel gear.  It was a beautiful day and Gary, Wesley and Mitchell’s dad, was able to be with us and be a part of our mission.  That day was special for many reasons, and not only because the amount raised was over $3569.  Again, two AEDs were purchased because of these great efforts of Rob, Maria, Cody, Trevor and Taylor Crane.

November 1st, our local Fennville Fire Department dedicated one of their pancake breakfasts to benefit the Wes Leonard Heart Team. Maria Flores was able to be there from our team and answer questions and say thank you to the community for their generous support.   The amount will be posted at a later date.  Thank you to all came and remembered our mission.

Last summer Spectators put together a tricycle race, they raised $620! Thank you to Spectators!

Thank You to Jodi Helms Organizers

The Wes Leonard Heart Team was the invited guests of the 2nd Annual Jodi Helms Fundraiser. The team was able to meet Jodi’s two daughters and they are wonderful young women. We so appreciated the way they organized the golf outing and held raffles on behalf of Wesley. This is another group of people in Pieson, Michigan who will make a difference with their caring ways. Thank you so much for you generous donation to our cause.

Thank You to East Saugatuck Church

What can we say to a community that supports and loves their own like East Saugatuck Church? The congregation rallied around our cause of awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and they went wonderfully crazy! The bands, the raffles, the food, everything was organized, fun and meaningful. The support from Hamilton, Saugatuck, Fennville, and Holland was unbelievable. Please follow our website and see where the free aeds will be going to due to your efforts and generousity. Our response to our tragic loss of Wesley will make a difference for another family. It will make a difference. Sincerely, Jocelyn and Gary Leonard and the Wes Leonard Heart Team
